Anterior uveitis

This term refers to an inflammation of the anterior part of the eyeball (iris and ciliary body) that can present with clinical pictures varying in intensity and depend on extremely diverse causes. The condition is characterized by the appearance of a redness of the eye accompanied by pain at the level of the eyeball (this increases with pressure and when the eyeball moves). Quickly, the patient experiences a decrease in vision. One must be careful not to think it is simply conjunctivitis, although the initial signs are often suggestive of this condition. Iridocyclitis in fact quickly lead to serious intraocular complications (synechiae, secondary glaucoma) which can permanently compromise vision if treatment is not promptly implemented. Treatment is twofold: - Symptomatic treatment first of all to obtain a reduction of the signs and prevent appearance of complications. Search for the cause of the condition, which can be lengthy and may require hospitalization for a few days in a specialized department. - The causes are numerous and varied (from a simple dental or ENT issue to rare general diseases that are difficult to identify), and it is essential to investigate them in order to be able to treat the disease at its source.
